Research Featuring MPAtlas Data

The MPAtlas database is a repository of independent, third-party research assessing MPAs and MPA zones using science-based frameworks, such as The MPA Guide. Through research led by our team, or in collaboration with other conservation scientists, our database seeks to categorize MPAs by Stage of Establishment and Level of Protection, two important metrics for evaluating MPA coverage and the likelihood of achieving the desired biodiversity benefits. Our work is an important tool for scientists evaluating MPA effectiveness around the world.

SeaStates is a rigorous, quantitative account of strongly protected MPAs in the waters of US coastal states and territories updated annually by the team at First published in 2013, our annual reports are intended to be a tool to measure and evaluate the progress towards effective marine protection in US waters.
