Marine Protection Atlas Intern

Katie earned her B.A. in Environmental Studies from Hamilton College, where she discovered her passion for marine conservation and nature-based solutions to climate change. She focused her undergraduate research on blue carbon, leading projects that modeled future carbon sequestration in Long Island’s wetlands and analyzed the potential carbon export benefits of implementing the proposed Weddell Sea MPA. Katie also spent four months living in Turks and Caicos, where she researched coral abundance and diversity in a nearby MPA. Her enthusiasm for marine biodiversity, blue carbon, and MPAs brought her to the Marine Conservation Institute, where she conducts MPA assessments for the Marine Protection Atlas. She hopes to begin her master’s degree in marine science in 2024. In her spare time, Katie loves SCUBA diving, being on the water, and bothering her grumpy, 17-year-old cat.
