Blue Parks Intern
Kabir Parker recently earned his B.S. in Marine Science, B.S. in Microbiology & Immunology, and minor in Chemistry from the University of Miami. Born in Greenwich, Connecticut and raised in New Delhi, India, his initial interest in marine biology stemmed from exploring Indian Ocean reefs while free-diving and Scuba diving as a child. When he realized that the coral reefs he learned to call home were threatened with extinction from anthropogenic influences, he decided to dedicate his career to marine conservation. His undergraduate research included understanding coral-algal symbiosis and its implications under climate change, hydrocarbon-consuming marine bacteria for use in oil-spill cleanup, and during a summer internship at NASA he ran an independent project and created satellite data models to track ocean macro-plastic. Kabir is an AAUS authorized Scientific Diver, PADI Rescue Diver, and an AIDA Master Free diver. He is also a passionate, selective and sustainable spear-fisherman who uses social media platforms (Instagram and YouTube) to share his messages of conservation and sustainability. Kabir is excited to apply his research experience and learn about Marine Protected Area implementation and management to increase the resilience of ocean ecosystems.
