Alexandra Smith
Blue Parks Intern
Alexandra Smith recently graduated from UC Santa Cruz with a B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. She grew up in Sonoma County and has been passionate about the ocean from a young age.
Her research experience began at the UC Davis Bodega Marine Lab where she worked on a project involving plankton recruitment. As a junior at UC Santa Cruz, she participated in a field quarter where she lived at the STARESO research station in Corsica, France. Here she developed a research project studying triplefin blenny food choice and habitat distribution in the Mediterranean Sea.
As an undergrad in Santa Cruz, she worked in the Alonzo Lab assisting a PhD student with their thesis on mosquitofish mating behavior.
After diving into the world of marine research, Allie would like to gain experience in conservation/non-profit work.
In the future, she hopes to pursue a Masters or PhD and continue to advocate for the ocean. Allie is a NAUI Open Water SCUBA Diver and Scientific Skin Diver.
